Where to Put the Mirror in Your Bedroom?

There are countless ways to arrange and position the mirror or mirrors in your bedroom to create interest and make your sleeping space more pleasing. Depending on how the mirrors are arranged, they can make your room look bigger or smaller; and this is only one of the things you can influence by your mirror arrangement.

As we go through this guide, we will share the best ways to position your mirrors and you can choose which suits you best. Whether you're into Feng Shui or not, it can't hurt to try out new mirror positions. With that said, let's get started!

What Is Feng Shui?

If you have no idea what Feng Shui is all about, we've got you covered. Feng Shui is a Chinese system of laws considered to govern orientation and spatial arrangement in relation to energy flow (chi), and whose favorable or unfavorable effects are taken into account when siting and designing buildings (or in this case, rearranging the bedroom).

According to Feng Shui, the flow of energy in the bedroom is affected differently if the mirror is placed at the head or foot of the bed. The Chinese consider the bedroom a sacred space, so it's normal that Feng Shui is usually mentioned when decorating.

Does Feng Shui Really Work?

Although there is no concrete scientific evidence to prove that Feng Shui works, many people claim that it helps with their physical and mental health. Whether it works or not, it's definitely a great idea to position your mirror in such a way that it doesn't interfere with your daily activities.

Now, let's go on and find out how best to place your mirror, as well as how NOT to position it. Let's go!

Where to Place Your Mirror

A mirror is not just a piece of furniture for looking at yourself. It's also an art piece that should flow seamlessly with the other pieces of furniture in your bedroom. In your bedroom, the mirror should be placed in a position where it brings a sense of calm and rest.

Ultimately, the best positions to place your mirror are the ones that suit you best. But we have some suggestions on how best to place your mirror relative to your comfortable egohome bed. Here are some of our favorite mirror positions in the bedroom.

Opposite a Window

Place the mirror directly across from a window if possible. This works particularly well if you're trying to make your room bigger. The mirror reflects all the natural light you get from the window right back into the room, creating an illusion of an extended space or of an extra window which increases the sense of depth.

Similarly, placing the mirror adjacent to a window refracts the natural light across the room. This is a handy trick for darker bedrooms. If you're placing your mirror opposite a window, choose an oval or circular mirror to complement the edges of beds, windows, and the room itself.

Alongside Furniture

Another great idea is to place your mirror alongside the furniture in your bedroom. This creates a sense of depth and works particularly well if your mirror is complementary to the rest of the furniture. You can place it next to a chest of drawers or a dresser to elongate the lines and make the room look bigger.

You can use both full length or small hanging mirrors in this scenario. You can use elliptical mirrors, but rectangular mirrors work better to 'extend the lines' of your furniture.

Behind the Bed

A great way to maximize your bedroom potential is by hanging a mirror behind your bed. A mirror in this position creates the illusion of a bigger bed by extending the headboard. A room that looks like it has a bigger bed automatically looks bigger while gaining grandeur from the central piece of furniture.

If your mirror is large enough, it can also reflect the light from your bedside table lamps back into the room, which allows your bedroom to feel more spacious throughout the day. However, if the mirror looks great behind your egohome fitted bed, don't sweat it, stick with it.

Opposite Artwork

Do you have a piece of art that you love in your bedroom? Place the mirror opposite it to amplify its impact. That way, you can view your favorite art installation from two different places. This is a trick that designers use extensively when amplifying small rooms.

When the artwork is reflected in the mirror, it creates the illusion of space because the eye catches the image twice in the same room. You can use several types of mirrors, depending on the artwork. Rectangular, elliptical, irregular, hanging, or full length mirrors are welcome as long as they are complementary.

On Your Closet Doors

This is a classic position for your mirror. It is particularly effective if there is no other space to hang or place your mirror in the room. Consider replacing one or both doors of your closet or just hanging a smaller mirror on the door.

The mirror or mirrors reflect the room back onto itself, creating an illusion of double spaces and making your bedroom feel more spacious. Additionally, they serve a functional purpose by being placed on the closet door where they will mostly be used.

Near a Window

Another way to make your room feel bright and airy is to place it near a window. Doing so feels more natural and can even bring in more natural light into the room, depending on the angle of the mirror.

Mirrors of various shapes work well with this setup. A round mirror suggests coziness and calm. Rectangular mirrors, especially full length ones, give a feeling of expansiveness and spaciousness. Irregular mirrors can give a funky and playful feeling, but that depends on what shapes the mirrors come in.

Where Not to Place Your Mirror

Now we know how best to position the mirror to give your room a sense of spaciousness or coziness, depending on what you're aiming for. As there are dos in mirror placement, there are don'ts as well. The following are some positions that we wouldn't advise you to place your mirror in.

Opposite Your Bed

A major rule of Feng Shui is not to place your mirror in a place where you will be able to see yourself when you are lying on the bed. Doing this may leave you struggling to feel refreshed and recharged from your sleep. A reflection of yourself while sleeping can be quite disruptive and lead to a feeling of unease.

Opposite a Doorway

Mirrors can easily help you create an open and spacious bedroom. However, placing a mirror opposite a doorway into your bedroom can be quite disruptive. That will be the first thing you see when you come in the room and if you're looking at the room, you'll be affected by any activity by the doorway.

Beside the doorway is a better position if there's no other place to place your mirror.

Avoid Reflecting Clutter

Mirrors can easily make your room feel bigger by reflecting whatever you place opposite them. Unfortunately, that applies to clutter too. If you place the mirror opposite the clutter in your room, the clutter ends up looking twice as big.

Keep this in mind whenever you're positioning your mirror. Reflecting clutter or mess in your room can evoke a sense of negative energy and easily disrupt your sleeping habits.

Facing the Bathroom

Don't hang your mirror on a wall opposite the bathroom or any bathroom door alternatives. Trust us, you'll feel upset seeing the bathroom reflected back at you anytime you look in the mirror. If you're planning to place your mirror opposite the bathroom, reconsider and find a better space.

Opposite a Blank Wall

A boring, sterile environment: that's the impression a mirror gives when facing a blank wall. The wall opposite the mirror should contain something, a picture on the wall or a potted plant breaks the monotony.

On the Ceiling

It's bad enough hanging a mirror opposite your bed, hanging it on the ceiling is a bad idea. You'll find that you feel uncomfortable, like someone is always watching you. It can easily disrupt your sleep patterns.

Imagine waking up groggy in the middle of the night and staring at your bleary-eyed figure — you get the idea.

Final Thoughts

Placement is essential for your mirror, whether you're a devout Feng Shui follower or you just want the best out of your mirror. The position of your mirror relative to the other components of your room can affect your sleep and should be taken seriously.

No matter the type of mirror you use and how you position it, your egohome mattress should fit right in to give you a comfortable night's rest. We hope you have a good night's rest.
